A partner in Africa
Giving access to high-quality health care to as many people as possible is B. Braun's goal on the African continent. As a true partner, we are working with local health care systems to help them improve together.
B. Braun has been active on the African continent for more than 60 years, with production plants in Kenya and South Africa as well as project and sales partners in countries like Ghana, Cameroon, and Senegal. We want to make basic medical care accessible to everyone, regardless of where they live, what color their skin is, or what social class they belong to. We focus on responsible, sustainable investments and long-term partnerships.
But what does this commitment on the African continent look like? How does B. Braun make these plans happen? What needs to be done specifically in the different health care systems? What steps do we need to take to achieve more equal opportunity on the path to better health care around the world?

To gain insight into our cooperation with local partners and organizations, we followed Sylberia Diack, who is studying biomedical technology at the university in Dakar, Senegal—a program initiated and monitored by B. Braun. In Cameroon, 20-year-old Ngueochi Tamba Maurelle tells us her story about living with chronic kidney disease. Because of B. Braun’s contribution, every week she receives the dialysis she needs to survive. Petty Tanghanwaye heads the B. Braun office in Accra, the capital of Ghana. He tells us about opportunities and challenges in West Africa and how he came to work at B. Braun. Last but not least, we visit our production facilities in Kenya and South Africa—and reflect on the possibilities our years of involvement have created for young people in South Africa.
All of these examples show how innovative ideas make it possible to achieve success on the African continent. Poverty, inadequate infrastructure and a lack of qualified workers are factors that require extraordinary dedication. B. Braun employs more than a thousand people on the African continent. We manufacture medical devices and pharmaceutical products at three different locations and provide care to several thousand patients with chronic kidney disease at our renal care centers. The path to health equity—more equitable access to modern health care—may still be a long one around the world, including in Africa. Yet, we believe the steps we are taking are in the right direction.
